In 2013 I attained a Master of Fine Art Degree with Distinction at Massey University, Wellington. Now that my Masters is complete I wish to consolidate my multidisciplinary contemporary practice focusing on photography, sculpture and video. (view my Thesis online.)

I enjoy the process of research and I have presented papers on my work at several symposiums, the most recent a virtual paper for the International Art in Society Conference 2013 on my masters research for the project ‘Internal Landscapes’. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Amx-fpn7iy0 Further to this I have presented papers at the Massey University Post Graduate Symposium 2012, Occulus - Canterbury University Post Graduate Symposium 2012, Art Association of Australia and New Zealand Annual Conference 2011.

History: I learnt the craft of photography as an advertising photographer with my own studio for 17 years until an accident in 2004. I have won multiple professional photographic awards in New Zealand and Australia, including 10 individual category awards in the NZIPP Iris Awards from 1994-2009. Archive www.mariasimages.com
